What is Whey Protein?

Whey is the quality protein found in cows milk. The whey protein found in cows milk is 20%whey and 80% casesin. The whey is a byproduct of cheese found in the cheese making process. During the cheese making process the cheese splits into two parts curds and a watery substance(the whey). The whey is than extracted and distilled and made into a powder form and used for many food and nutritional supplements. The whey is a quality protein with the necessary essential and non essential amino acids necessary for diet, nutrition and muscle growth.

“Biological Value (BV) is a measure of a particular protein’s effect on nitrogen balance (the more positive the better). The protein digestibility corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS) is a measure of how well a particular protein supplies the nine essential amino acids (the more completely the better)”(whey protein.com). Since whey protein has a high digestibility corrected amino acid score ,whey absorbs amino acids into the bloodstream which is ideal for diet and exercise.  Whey protein is a complete protein that contains all 20 amino acids and all nine essential amino acids necessary for muscle gains and energy for intense workouts.
